Motorcycling has never been so popular and there is a growth in the number of powered two wheelers on Scotland’s roads. One of the drawbacks however of riding on two wheels is the riders’ vulnerability. Any crash involving a bike will undoubtedly be far more severe than in a car. Each year many motorcycle riders and passengers are killed and seriously injured. In Scotland alone in 2000 40 riders were killed with a further 1086 seriously or slightly injured. In a combined effort to increase rider safety and awareness of dangers, all Scottish Police Forces in conjunction with the SRSC, the Motorcycle action group, the British Motorcyclists Federation and Lloyds UDT-RIGP Finance are promoting a scheme called Bikesafe Scotland.
